Mexico City – Twenty Million People Can’t Be Wrong

Tuesday 26 November 2013
We were very lucky that we were able to stay with Gael’s family who lived in a lovely part of Mexico City.  They were so wonderful and welcoming.  Gael’s mother, Lu Lu is a professional photographer and artist.  I admit to being a bit jealous of creative people; Lu Lu’s apartment is so beautiful, full of her eclectic and excellent taste.  It was just beautiful.

The first full day we were there she took us on the Mexico City subway to the museums to see the many fantastic murals, palaces and gorgeous buildings. Like any big city, when you have a local showing you around, you are very lucky and get to see the highlights without the usual stumbling around in the dark.  This was doubly true in this case since Lu Lu is an artist and knows where all the good stuff is and who did it, and what it means.

Then she took us to a café.  Very nice.  “Then…OMG!  What are we looking at!?”  We were right on top of the old Templo Mayor – the old Aztec pyramids!  We were going to go there (and did later) but didn’t expect to be sitting having coffee looking right over them.  Only a local is going to show you that!
Off to the Palacio De Bellas Artes to have a really lovely lunch.  A couple of high school students wanted to do an interview with English speaking people, so Trevor obliged.
